Summer Programme 2010Our Summer Programme for 2010 was a huge success with a huge variety of activities and on average 30-40 children turning up for each activity. During the Summer Programme I was fortunate enough to attend quite few in my duties as photographer, here are my accounts of some of the things I attended:
African Arts Day - On African Arts Day there was plenty to do including story telling and dancing, face painting and children learning to play bongo drums in sync to make a story up with the drums. Great turnout of over 20 children and what a great noise everyone made when the bongo drums was played all together! At the end everything was compiled together for a great finish to the day. Hip Hop & Urban Dance Choreography dance lessons - On the afternoon of August 26th, a whopping 30-40 children attending this Choreography lesson with the same tutour from a few weeks back, even he was overwhelmed by the number of children attending. The Dance tutor began by doing warm ups, making everyone run round in a circle and doing jumps in the air to get everyone all worked up ready for the dance off. Sadly I had to leave then but I was told, amazing turnout, afternoon was brilliant with everyone enjoying themselves and getting stuck in. Well done all for turning up and well done to the tutor. My Placement![]() My names Beky and I'm on The Princes' Trust course, it is a personal development course. This helps to build confidence, attain qualifications and help with Employment. I have been sent on a two week placement and I have chosen the Drop In Centre as in the future I would like to be a fully qualified youth worker. Whilst I've been here I've been involved in the summer programme sessions, which are the Lyric writing with hungry head entertainment and the healthy eating and sports. For the healthy eating and sports I made worksheets for the younger children which were pictures of fruit to colour in and guess the name of the fruit at the bottom. I also made word searches, and easy on for the younger children and a harder one for the older. I also had to go up to town and get some materials. Soraya wrote me a list of things which were: skewers, plastic spoons, paper bowls, ice cream and grapes. Later the same day I helped to prepare the fruit kebabs and distribute them. Whilst I've been here everyone has been so friendly so I feel comfortable and have settled in well. I enjoy coming to my placement as I am learning how to work with younger people and how to act around them. It has been fun lyric writing and seeing the kids use their imagination to create their own raps which I later typed up for them. Some of them even asked me and Soraya if they would be recording them. It was nice to see the children enjoying themselves and some were expressing emotions over things that had happened to them; in their raps which was interesting because it helps us to understand how they think and how they were feeling. I also enjoyed the healthy eating and sports, even though I didn't take part in the sports. I helped to put the fruit pieces onto the skewers and beforehand I washed all the fruit ready for Tanya to peel and chop them. I also tried some new fruits for the first time. By the end of the placement I hope to have gained experience in working with children and some advice in what to do in order to get the qualifications I need to become a youth worker. And I would like to volunteer to gain more experience in the area of work I would like because I have enjoyed it so much here. Last Updated (Tuesday, 17 August 2010 11:15) |
