Children and Young People in the Community
Children and Young People In the Community (CYPIC) was developed in response to the success of our weekly Friday Nite Club. Friday Nite Club was a weekly youth club set up by the Chair of the Thompson street Resident's Panel and the Drop In Centre Manager. In 2006 a small funding bid was made to VCVS Kickstart programme to finance the club for 6 months.
The club was well supported and soon the demand for increased activities became clear and staff and volunteers at the Drop In Centre began to look for ways to expand and continue the club. The Communities First Development Worker (Emily Forbes) together with the Drop In Centre Manager applied for funding to the Big Lottery to increase provision and employ a dedicated Children and Young People's Worker. The name for the project was decided by Emily who felt it demonstrated the intentions of the project.
A children and young people's Co-ordinator was appointed in December 2007, Soraya Cordle a local resident who had been working with us on a voluntary basis. From those early beginnings and with support from the Big Lottery (£92,000 over 3 years), CYPIC was born!
The CYPIC project has developed a number of successful regular activities for Children and young people and is responsible for delivery of main services to Children and young people in our community.
